About
Set on a scenic farmstead in Hopkinsville, Casey Jones Distillery offers a welcoming, down-to-earth stop for visitors exploring Western Kentucky spirits. The experience blends a relaxed country setting with a hands-on look at small-batch production, anchored by the distillery’s signature square copper pot still. Guests can drop in for tours and tastings, browse the bottle shop, and enjoy the property’s easygoing atmosphere that makes it feel like a true local destination rather than a quick roadside stop.
History
Casey Jones Distillery opened in 2014, founded by Arlon “AJ” Casey Jones and his wife, Peg Hays, carrying forward a family legacy tied to the legendary stillmaker Casey Jones, AJ’s grandfather. The brand draws inspiration from a distinctive style of square still associated with Kentucky’s Prohibition-era moonshine history, when Casey Jones built and perfected equipment that became widely known in the region. Over time, the modern distillery grew from a passion project into a full visitor destination, expanding its production capabilities while staying focused on traditional craft methods and small-batch character. In 2022, the company welcomed partner Cody Turner, and the distillery has continued investing in growth, including major facility and equipment upgrades designed to increase capacity for distilling, fermenting, bottling, and aging.
Notoriety
Casey Jones Distillery is best known for turning an iconic Kentucky moonshine story into a visitor experience you can see, taste, and understand in real time. The square copper pot still is a true centerpiece, giving the distillery a visual signature that stands out from more conventional setups, and the portfolio spans crowd-pleasing spirits like bourbon, barrel-strength selections, and classic “shine” styles. The distillery is also recognized as a proud stop for bourbon travelers in the region, offering daily opportunities to tour, sample, and learn the story behind the still and the family name. Add in special events, a strong local following, and newer hands-on offerings like bottle-your-own, and it’s easy to see why many visitors consider it a must-stop in Western Kentucky.
