About

Horse Soldier Farms Distillery is an upcoming destination-style bourbon campus in Somerset that’s being built as more than a single distillery tour stop. It’s positioned as a full-scale Kentucky experience overlooking the Lake Cumberland region. The project is tied to the Horse Soldier Bourbon story, a brand built around service, resilience, and an unmistakably American identity, and it’s designed to feel both immersive and meaningful from the moment you arrive. Even before opening, the concept stands out because it aims to blend bourbon-making with a “stay awhile” setting, making it a natural fit for travelers who want to pair a distillery visit with the outdoors, a weekend itinerary, and the slower pace of Southern Kentucky.

History

Horse Soldier Farms grew out of the Horse Soldier Bourbon brand and its founding story tied to U.S. Special Forces, with Somerset intentionally chosen for its connection to the team’s training roots on the Cumberland River and the Lake Cumberland region. In October 2021, Kentucky officials publicly announced the project as a major tourism development for Pulaski County, describing a large-scale campus intended to serve as a southern anchor for the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The full vision goes far beyond a standard distillery stop, featuring a 27,585-square-foot distillery, a 60-key luxury lodge, 20 cabins, a wedding chapel, and a 5,000-capacity amphitheater, positioning the site as a true stay-and-explore destination rather than a quick tour-only visit. The Horse Soldier brand is also known for its distinctive “Forged in Fire” bottle design pressed from molds made with recovered World Trade Center steel, a symbolic detail meant to honor resilience and service, and the campus concept is designed to carry that sense of purpose into a complete Kentucky travel experience.

Notoriety

Horse Soldier Farms Distillery is already well-known in Kentucky tourism circles because of the scale and ambition of the Somerset project and the story behind the brand. The concept stands out for pairing bourbon with a strong service-driven narrative and a distinct visual identity. The brand is being positioned as a southern anchor style stop for Kentucky bourbon travel, bringing more visitor gravity to the Lake Cumberland region rather than concentrating everything in the Bluegrass, Louisville, and Bardstown corridors. For many travelers, the appeal will be the combination of place and purpose, a scenic destination campus designed to be experienced slowly, paired with a brand story that feels personal and memorable.
