About
MB Roland Distillery is a grain-to-glass craft distillery in Pembroke, Kentucky, set among the rolling farmland of Christian County near the Tennessee state line. Founded by Paul and Merry Beth “MB” Roland Tomaszewski, the distillery has built its identity around bold, full-flavored whiskey made in a pre-Prohibition style, with Kentucky-grown grains, double pot distillation, barrel-proof character, and non-chill filtered releases. The visit feels relaxed, rural, and personal, making it a strong fit for travelers who want a true Western Kentucky spirits stop rather than a large commercial campus. Guests can tour the distillery, enjoy tastings, explore the rickhouse on select experiences, and sample a portfolio that includes bourbon, whiskey, moonshine, and creative flavored spirits.
History
MB Roland Distillery was founded in 2009 by husband-and-wife team Paul and Merry Beth Tomaszewski after Paul was brought to Kentucky through his service in the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell. The couple purchased a former Amish dairy farm near Pembroke and transformed it into one of Kentucky’s early modern craft distilleries. From the beginning, MB Roland focused on making its own whiskey rather than sourcing from outside producers, a commitment that remains central to the brand’s identity. The operation started small, with Paul and Merry Beth using a 100-gallon still and filling only a few barrels a year, but it gradually grew into a respected craft distillery with a team dedicated to preserving a heavier, more flavorful style of American whiskey.
Notoriety
MB Roland is best known for its unapologetically bold whiskey style. The distillery specializes in pre-Prohibition-inspired bourbon and whiskey, often bottled at still proof or barrel proof with no water added after distillation. That approach gives the spirits a full-bodied character that appeals to visitors who enjoy strong flavor, higher proof, and a more old-school whiskey profile. MB Roland is also known for using local white corn and for its limited Dark Fired Bourbon and Dark Fired Whiskey, which incorporate dark-fired corn for a smoky, regional flavor connection that feels especially tied to Western Kentucky agriculture.
