History

RD1 Spirits was founded in 2020 with a mission to revive and celebrate Lexington’s early bourbon “firsts,” especially the story of the city’s first federally registered distillery in 1865. The name RD1 nods to Registered Distillery One, tying the modern brand to Lexington’s historic role in Kentucky whiskey. Rather than positioning itself as an old-family distillery, RD1 frames its identity around modern entrepreneurship, experimentation, and the idea of pushing bourbon forward while keeping one foot in the past.
