About
Jackson Purchase Distillery is a modern, production-first bourbon operation in far Western Kentucky, built for one primary purpose, which is making whiskey. Set in the small river town of Hickman near Kentucky’s borders with Tennessee, Missouri, and Illinois, this is not a polished visitor-center stop with galleries and a souvenir loop. Instead, it represents the quieter side of Kentucky bourbon culture, where the focus is on mash, fermentation, distillation, and filling barrels day after day. For bourbon fans, it’s a fascinating name because it shows how big bourbon has become beyond the traditional tourism corridor, and how serious operations can thrive in corners of the state most travelers never associate with whiskey-making.
History
The modern Jackson Purchase story accelerated in the early 2020s, when a group of partners acquired the Fulton County facility and pushed to bring it fully to life as an active distillery. After the purchase process wrapped up, the team focused on getting equipment operational and ramping production quickly, filling its first barrel on August 1, 2021. From there, growth came fast through added fermentation capacity, equipment upgrades, and expanded distilling output, with the site steadily increasing its ability to produce new make and fill barrels.
Notoriety
Jackson Purchase Distillery is best known for what it is not. It’s not built around public tours, cocktail bars, or a gift shop experience. That’s part of what makes it notable in today’s bourbon landscape, where many brands are designed as tourism destinations first and distilleries second. Jackson Purchase has built its reputation as a serious distiller with a production mindset, with much of its whiskey made under contract for customers who are buying barrels and planning brands years into the future.
